Hiring Immediately – Senior Safety Manager – Health and Compliance

Transdev Services, Inc. is seeking a Senior Safety Manager – Health and Compliance for its Boston Public Schools (BPS) transportation contract. The Senior Safety Manager – Health and Compliance is responsible for providing operational oversight, safety, and service quality for the transportation services we provide to BPS, schools, students, and families.

Responsibilities:

  • Measures and reports key performance measures; and oversees back-office operations relating to licensure and training records, drug testing, insurance reporting, workers compensation claims, accident claims and subrogation, workplace safety, and employee health and safety.

  • Coordinates the activities of workers’ compensation, general liability and vehicle liability insurance carriers and insurance consultants as it affects safety and loss control; makes recommendations to the General Manager to help limit loss.

  • Ensures that all reporting and risk management tools, including WebRisk, are always up to date and correct.

  • Conducts evaluations and inspections to mitigate risk and minimize risk of loss potential.

  • Conducts evaluations and inspections to mitigate risk and minimize risk of loss potential; ensures that safety inspections are properly scheduled, carried out, monitored, acted upon, and documented.

  • Ensures contract compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and company/client regulations; ensures that related record keeping and reporting requirements are met and maintained; provides support in implementing the approved recommendations.

  • Coordinates and ensures compliance with substance abuse testing program using Federal and Company standards.

  • Conducts evaluations and inspections to mitigate risk and minimize risk of loss potential; ensures that safety inspections are properly scheduled, carried out, monitored, acted upon, and documented.

  • Manages the Workplace Health and Accident Prevention programs.

  • Coordinates efforts with security staff or vendor; develops and updates security policies and processes; and ensures that all security incidents are properly reported and investigated.

  • Sets the tone for the location as the expert in EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), CDL compliance and regulations.

  • Oversees the successful completion of all safety related reviews/audits.

  • Assists with oversight of the Safety Desk.

  • Coaches and motivates staff; provides guidance and direction on problems and issues; delegates work assignments considering employee skills and development needs as required.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all information.

  • Performs other duties and projects as required.

Education, Licensing, and Certifications Required:

  • A high school diploma or G.E.D.

  • A valid driver’s license.

  • A satisfactory driving history.

Education, Licensing, and Certifications Preferred:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business, Public Administration, or related field preferred.

  • A valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger and School Bus endorsements preferred.

  • A Massachusetts School Bus Trainer Certificate preferred.

  • Applicable professional certifications preferred.

Experience Required:

  • Five (5) years of experience in passenger transit safety or training.

  • Four (4) years of supervisory experience in passenger transit safety or training.

Experience Preferred:

  • Compliance experience in a passenger transit or commercial motor vehicle environment preferred.

  • Passenger transit training experience preferred.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) rules and regulations.

  • Must have excellent computer skills and be functional with various types of software including Microsoft Office.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills including the ability to explain and present regulations to others.

  • Must be able to demonstrate poise, tact, diplomacy, and possess good judgement and discretion.

  • Must be able to create, retrieve and maintain information and reports.

  • Must be detail oriented, well organized, and possess effective time management skills.

  • Must have proven customer service and interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact professionally with internal and external customers on all levels.

  • Ability to manage and work effectively with a diverse workforce.

  • Ability to influence people at all levels of the organization.

Pre-employment Requirements:

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test, background screenings including a criminal background check and fingerprinting, and driving record review.

  • Ability to work shifts or flexible work schedules indoors in air conditioned or well-ventilated facilities and outdoors exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time which can be very hot in the summer months and cold during the winter months.

  • Indoor work is accomplished in an office or in a cubicle space equipped with a telephone and computer.

  • 60% of work is accomplished indoors and in air conditioned or well-ventilated facilities.

  • 40% of work is accomplished outdoors in various weather conditions, near vehicles, on the lot, or in the maintenance facilities.

  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.

  • The employee is generally subjected to long periods typing or looking at a computer screen.

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.

  • Exposure to heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job.

  • Exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes, and noise.

Travel requirement (as a percent): 50% travel between properties for meetings, outside training, and support missions.
